Kindness Song..... opened the assembly....see video below
The Máire Rua award originated in honour of our wonderful teacher, Mrs Marion McNamara who taught in St. Paul’s School for many many years and passed away in 2008. During her teaching years apart from being an outstanding teacher she valued family and kindness and she strived to instil the trait of kindness and caring in every pupil. In her honour and memory, the Máire Rua Award was set up.
All children started to make their way to the hall at 9am and were guided to their places by our SNA, Martina.
The celebration began with a speech fromMr. Tuohy followed by Ms. Geary who welcomed staff and pupils to the ‘Kindness Celebration’, she spoke about being kind to each other throughout life.
A speech from Ms. Áine McNamara followed (Mrs Marion McNamara’s daughter) who said a huge well done to the children who were being awarded for their kindness and went on to say that her mom, Mrs McNamara would be very proud of the children who followed in her legacy of kindness.
Mr. Madden was our MC for the event.
Mr. Madden, our SNA's Eileen and Emily Mr. Tuohy then presented certs and medals to 26 children in our school….one boy or girl from each class plus two children from our social skills group . The child chosen was selected by all pupils in his/her class for their kindness. As each child was called to collect their award their teacher spoke a few words about why they had been chosen by their classes and Ms. Allis and Ms Ulhemann took all their photos.
Mr. Tuohy closed with the ceremony.
All children then sang ‘Circle of Friends’ …. finale to the celebration. check out the video at the end of this article.
It was indeed a joyous and special occasion and a huge thank you to staff members for making this special day possible especially Ms. Geary for organising the whole event.
The day did not end there…..Our Student Council organised an Ice-cream van to come to the school so all children had a lovely ice-cream followed by a Zumba session with Darren Nash for every class. The children really enjoyed the session and everyone was getting active including the teachers!!! A big bualadh bos’ to our Student Council and to our teacher Ms. Hayes for certainly adding fun to the day.
Pupils from St. Gabriel’s School joined us for an ice-cream also.
