The Student Council have very busy lately. To follow is a report from the Student Council on their activities over the past few weeks…..
‘Frása na Seachtaine (Phrases of the week)
We have had some meetings with Ms. Kenneally and we agreed that each week we will call out the Frása na Seachtaine (phrases of the week) as part of part of our weekly announcement to the school e.g. Ar mhaith leat súgradh liom? Ba mhaith liom súgradh leat and much more.
We hope to hear these frásaí through put the school and the yard.
Recycling...
We also met with Ms. Toomey during this month and she highlighted the issue of litter and recycling within the school.
Hundreds of millions of tonnes of rubbish that is currently being sent to landfill could be recycled every year,
- Most plastic can be recycled. In fact up to 99% of plastics can now be recycled,
- In Ireland we are only recycling 22.5% of our plastic whereas in Norway they are recycling 97%.
Therefore we feel that is very important that our school begins to use our bins correctly and recycle correctly.
We have begun an information campaign with all classes and we are regularly visiting the classes to see how they are getting on and to offer and help we can.
Healthy Eating
We also had a meeting with some of the members of the Healthy Heroes committees. They are busy planning some nice activities for all the classes. They have decided that they will be visiting their appointed classes every Tuesday at lunchtime.
They will be advising healthy lunches and praising all those who are trying their best to include as much healthy brain food as possible in their lunch boxes every day.
Internet Safety
February 7th was Internet Safety Day and we announced over the intercom. We have encouraged all classes to get involved in discussing this very important issue and we are looking forward to distributing wristbands to everyone to help highlight this issue. We had an excellent speaker visit the senior classes last term and she gave us so much information on how to stay safe online. We are encouraging everyone to remember and practice all this good advise.
We have lots more exciting things coming up in the near future including Food Dudes and Team Limerick Clean Up (TLC)…..SO STAY TUNED.’
